Mastering Mathematics

Mastering Mathematics is a multi-sensory mathematics program developed for children and youth who struggle with the attainment of foundational numeracy skills due to an identified or suspected learning disability. Highly trained tutors work in small groups (3-4 students) using early intervention methods to improve their skills in number sense and numeration, patterning, algebra, and mathematical applications and increase their engagement and motivation for math. Tactile math manipulative kits are provided to all students to help them visualize and understand abstract math concepts.
Each class is one hour long and takes place twice a week for 9 weeks. The educator teaches generalized concepts based on the group’s numeracy gaps but can also differentiate the teaching for each of the students in the small group. This allows students to work at their own pace. Students spend as long on a concept as they need to grasp it, as math skills can only grow if the foundations are strong.
