Why choose the Social Skills Program?
A program that assists in the development of social skills and social problem-solving strategies, while also promoting self-esteem and self-advocacy in a supportive environment. The aim of the program is to encourage friendship, positive social/emotional behaviours, active listening, effective communication, and understanding of social norms.
These skills will be taught through group discussion, play-based activities, team building games, and role-playing, and children will benefit from working together with other children that have similarities to them.
Who is the program designed for?
Children diagnosed with a Learning Disability and/or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) who may avoid social contact, behave immaturely, be shy or timid in groups, frequently fight with peers, display a lack of self-esteem and self-confidence, and enjoy meeting other children with LD and/or ADHD.
This program was a great experience for my son and for us as parents. It was great to see how much Matthew enjoyed his time at the social classes and to put his learnings to use. We were lucky and grateful to have Shawna and team run the program and appreciated the positive and encouraging feedback weekly. I hope others have the opportunity to experience what we have.
The Application Process

Complete the waitlist form (located on the right side of this page) to ensure that this program will be the right fit for you and your child.
2. A Program Coordinator Will Reach Out To You
If this program is right for you and your child, you will receive word from our program coordinator.
You will be notified if there is space for your child in the upcoming session. If not, you will be placed on a waitlist for a future session.
*Acceptance into the group is based on match and suitability of the cohort. Enrolment is not guaranteed.

The Centre for Diverse Learners follows and will continue to follow all Public Health guidelines and requirements for the operation of its in-person programs. However, due to the unpredictable nature of COVID-19 and it’s affect on the Halton-Hamilton area, the Centre for Diverse Learners reserves the right to transition all in-person classes to a virtual environment in accordance to any recommendation by Health Canada. When signing up for this program, you agree that in-person classes may be held online when deemed necessary. No refunds will be applicable in the case that classes continue in-person and families choose to withdraw, but applicants will have the choice to withdraw if classes transition to online-based learning.
