Centre for Diverse Learners Summer Waitlists

Centre for Diverse Learners Reading Rocks Summer 2022 

This program focuses on supporting vulnerable readers, particularly those with diagnosed or suspected learning disabilities, in building essential literacy skills. Each student works 1:1 in-person with a trained tutor on phonics, sight words, and fluency, and building student motivation towards reading/writing through goal setting and success tracking. 

This program is open for students in grades 1-6, and runs for 1hr per day, five days a week for 3 weeks. 

Centre for Diverse Learners Mastering Math Summer 2022

This is an opportunity for students with a diagnosed or suspected learning disability and/or ADHD to work in small groups (max 3:1) with students at a similar level to fill gaps in number sense and numeration, patterning, and algebra and mathematical application. This program uses multi-sensory teaching with manipulatives provided.

This program is open to students in Grades 3-8 and runs daily, five days a week, for 4 weeks from August 2nd to Aug 29th

(1 hour per day for students in Grades 3-4, 1.5 hours per day for students in Grades 5-8)

Centre for Diverse Learners Social Skills Summer 2022

This program is designed for students with diagnosed or suspected learning disabilities and/or ADHD and encourages friendship, positive social/emotional behaviours, active listening, effective communication, and understanding of social norms. It is taught through group discussion, play-based activities, team-building games, and role-playing.  

This program is for students in Grades 3-8 Classes are 1.5 hours in length and are run in-person, with the classes split by age (Grades 3-5 and Grades 6-8) 

Sessions run every day for two weeks, either July 4-15  or July 18-28 

Centre for Diverse Learners SOAR Summer 2022

Designed for students with suspected or diagnosed learning disabilities and/or ADHD, this program helps students identify their strengths & needs, understand their preferred learning style to encourage active participation, enhance self-advocacy skills and build a growth mindset. Discussion topics include strategies to develop strong study skills and healthy habits (e.g., organization, responsibility, time management, etc.) to support their learning and transition to secondary school. Classes are 1 hour in length and are run in-person 

Grades 6-9 
July 4-15 (9:30-10:30am  Location: Burlington) and  
July 18-28  (9:30-10:30am  Location: North Halton) 

Centre for Diverse Learners Executive Functioning Summer 2022

Designed for students with suspected or diagnosed learning disabilities and/or ADHD, this program helps students set goals for themselves, and learn the skills they need to successfully complete school assignments and projects. Topics will be determined based on the unique needs of the students and may include, but not be limited to: planning, setting up your workspace to limit distractions, chunking, studying for tests, creating task motivation, self-awareness and monitoring of progress, and developing intrinsic motivation. 

Date, Time and Location TBD base on the status of the waitlist. 

Please Note:

Free places are available through the following school boards, but you must be recommended by your Special Education Resource Teacher to be put on the application list.

Hamilton Wentworth Catholic District School Board- Social Skills (Grades 3-8), Executive Functioning (Grades 6-12), and Reading Rocks (Grades 1-6)

Free places are available through Halton District School Board without a recommendation by your Special Education Resource Teacher.
